Tom grew up in Highland Park and attended both Highland Catholic and Cretin Derham Hall. After graduating from CDH he moved on to the University of Iowa where he studied for four years. While in Iowa Tom ran the Chicago and the Boston marathons.  Tom worked in St. Paul Parks and Recreation programming for seven years.  This has gotten him involved in many of the areas around St. Paul, most notably at Hillcrest Community Center in Highland Park.
